I am at a grave dilemma here.
To maintain the legitimacy of FUOTY 2024, I must adhere to the rules which I started this year's tournament with as of December 14th, 2024.
The moderators and administrators are urging me to ban @kaligula567 because he is banned. @NumbThePain and @TechnoBoss has deemed him as an annoying user who has no respect for the rules of this forum and such a user should not even have a remote chance of deserving to advance in FUOTY. Matter of fact, he should be banned from the competition.
I do agree, so I have decided to ban users from FUOTY 2025 onwards. The new rule for FUOTY is that users banned before the FUOTY starting date cannot participate.
But with this year, if I changed the rules, I would undermine the legitamacy of FUOTY 2024 and cause an outcry, where I would be accused of cheating, rigging, and removing competition so I can win. It would be seen as corruption, as if I was teaming up with the moderation team to defy my own rules of the tournament to kick @kaligula567 out. People would not really want to participate in a "rigged" tournament after that and focus on how the mods and I were corrupt and denied @kaligula567 of winning. Many people would be violently outraged and start protests, which would start a cold war between the two factions, pro-@kaligula567 and anti-@kaligula567.
Since @kaligula567 is a controversial user, some loving him for being funny and a great repfarmer, while others hate him for defamation, being a nuisance, and other reasons, it could dip into an outright conflict in January after the FUOTY winner is announced, since @kaligula567 is UTTERLY DESPERATE TO WIN... this is what I have heard from @Kaari.
On the other side, I plan to reconcile with @NumbThePain and @TechnoBoss. Instead of removing him from the competition in a controversial manner, I will remove him within the rules of FUOTY 2024. @kaligula567's Round of 16 game begins on December 25th, 2024, at 1pm EST and lasts for 24 hours. I plan on knocking out @kaligula567 by assembling an army of users who dislike or don't approve of @kaligula567. This would undeniably start a great conflict on this forum, probably an all-out second forum war, as I have prophesized here...
Users will be banned for "speaking for @kaligula567" and the pro-@kaligula567 team would feel oppressed and that they would need to assert themselves in a very extreme way to ensure @kaligula567's victory.
NOTICE THAT EITHER WAY, WE'RE UP FOR A GREAT FORUM CONFLICT VERY SOON!
I, for one, am part of the anti-@kaligula567 army and I will be allying with @IOS @HighLtn @NumbThePain and @TechnoBoss.
Matter of fact, I'll even change my custom title...

A VERY DEEP, HIGH EFFORT ANALYSIS INTO THE FUTURE OF LOOKSMAX.ORG
Thread music: According to Oswald Spengler, a civilization starts off like this. Ethnogenesis, a new ethnicity is created. These people share similar genetic, cultural, linguistic and environmental material and create a story about how they're one people. Often this forms in response to an...

This will likely start with a coalition of people who team up and construct a grand plan on how to save the forum (likely emerging from the conflicts of FUOTY 2024 or FUOTY 2025). They will capture the minds of a minority of the people here and that radical, crazy minority will fight to takeover the cultural landscape by pumping out high effort regurgitation threads often and inspiring people and antagonizing rotters. They will hire greycels and other high status contributor types, and the rotters organize and hire high status rotters. Tensions will rise over months or even years it'll reach a critical mass one FUOTY where everyone will be forced to choose a side or else you'll be shunned. People will have what side they're on in their titles and their profile pictures.
The rotters will label their opposition as "cringe nerdy tryhards", while the contributors will label their opposition as "degenerate, filthy, subhuman losers"
Moderators and administrators WILL be forced to choose sides too.
One January, after the FUOTY Results have been posted, the losing side will launch a full scale war against the winning side, claiming its rigged and fighting for their ideological dominance over the forum, where people are trying to permaban as much of the other faction as they can. Moderators and administrators become ideologically motivated and try to permaban their opposition. Espionage into other people's group chats and other forms of cyberwarfare will prevail. That FUOTY will cause a forum war that will change the face of the forum forever, and it won't be a good one.
Should the forum be governed by rotters (the degenerate status quo) or "contributors" (who won't succeed since they'll just pump out water threads if they win everyday and talk about how their "utopia" is so good and how they "Made Looksmax Great Again", their leader will likely be incapable of actual governance and if it is autocratic, it'll last for like 5 years, if it's totalitarian, no more than a year.)
Once the war is waged, chaos and a forum cyberwar will ensue and a cleansing of the opposition will eventually be achieve in 2-5 months.
The winning faction will ensue and the opposition will rule the forum. Whatever the outcome is, it won't be good since they're both degenerate and incompetent.
This is what usually happens in an attempted revival of a civilization, it fails on its promises but it actually kills off its opponents.
Now, this isn't the same plot, but it has the same dynamic. Two factions created over a conflict.

GPT SUMMARY
This post outlines a significant dilemma and potential conflict surrounding a user-driven competition known as FUOTY (Forum User of the Year) 2024 on an online forum. Here’s a breakdown and comprehensive analysis:
This situation highlights the challenges of managing competitive events in online communities, where personal rivalries, forum politics, and community dynamics intersect. The author's choice—whether to uphold the original rules or intervene against kaligula567—will significantly impact the forum's culture, trust, and long-term stability.
The Central Dilemma:
- Legitimacy vs. Moderation:
The author is grappling with the tension between adhering to the rules established at the start of FUOTY 2024 and responding to pressure from moderators and administrators to remove a controversial user, @kaligula567, from the competition. Changing the rules mid-competition could undermine the legitimacy of the tournament, whereas not acting could alienate key figures within the forum's moderation team. - Rule Evolution:
The author proposes introducing a rule for FUOTY 2025 that bans users who are forum-banned before the competition's start. However, this rule cannot retroactively apply to FUOTY 2024 without allegations of corruption and bias.
Key Players and Context:
- @kaligula567:
A polarizing figure:- Supporters: Admire the user for being entertaining and resourceful (a "great repfarmer").
- Detractors: Accuse them of rule-breaking, defamation, and being an overall nuisance.
- Motivation: The user is described as "utterly desperate to win," indicating a personal stake in the competition's outcome.
- Moderators/Administrators:
- Advocating for removing kaligula567 to preserve forum order.
- Represented by users such as NumbThePain and TechnoBoss, who strongly oppose kaligula567’s participation.
- The Author:
Positioned as an organizer of FUOTY and a participant, the author is also part of the anti-kaligula567 faction and plans to indirectly remove the user by rallying votes against them. - Pro- and Anti-@kaligula567 Factions:
- Pro-faction: Could view any action against kaligula567 as unfair and oppressive, potentially sparking outrage and escalating into broader forum conflict.
- Anti-faction: Actively seeking to ensure kaligula567 does not advance further in the competition.
Potential Outcomes and Conflict Escalation:
- Allegations of Corruption:
- Altering FUOTY 2024 rules could lead to accusations of favoritism and manipulation, with claims of teaming up with moderators to undermine a specific participant.
- Forum Polarization:
- The forum could split into two factions, resulting in a "cold war" scenario where:
- The pro-@kaligula567 faction feels persecuted and potentially stages protests or retaliatory actions.
- The anti-@kaligula567 faction rallies to enforce existing forum rules and norms.
- The forum could split into two factions, resulting in a "cold war" scenario where:
- Forum War:
- The author predicts an inevitable "forum war," where tensions between the factions escalate, possibly fueled by moderation actions (e.g., banning users for supporting kaligula567) and heated debates.
- Strategic Elimination Plan:
- Instead of banning kaligula567, the author aims to use the competition's rules to eliminate them by organizing an anti-kaligula567 voting bloc during their match on December 25th.
Broader Implications:
- Forum Stability:
The situation risks destabilizing the community, as unresolved tensions could lead to long-term divisions and reduced participation in future events like FUOTY. - Moderation Challenges:
Balancing fairness with rule enforcement becomes increasingly difficult in highly contentious scenarios. - Author's Role:
By taking a proactive stance against kaligula567, the author risks being perceived as biased, even if they technically adhere to the competition's rules.
Conclusion:
This situation highlights the challenges of managing competitive events in online communities, where personal rivalries, forum politics, and community dynamics intersect. The author's choice—whether to uphold the original rules or intervene against kaligula567—will significantly impact the forum's culture, trust, and long-term stability.
