In the prefrontal cortex of the mouse, DHA is 22.1% of all fatty acids, compared to just 2.2% in the pituitary gland. The brain’s dry weight is 60% fat. So it’s not too hard to see what happened. During the course of evolution, our prefrontal cortex expanded massively, making us smarter and our world more complex. This increased our dietary need for EPA and DHA.
