Title tbh. I still think that despite the high competition tech is one of best fields to get into. Yes the barrier for entry is alot of higher and there is shit ton of competition. But it still remains the only true rags to riches path. I can't tell you the number of under 30 millionaires I've seen in tech. If you want to get rich while young tech is the best choice. Mogs finance, law everything in that regard where most of the money you make will be made later in your career in tech it is opposite there's no slow climb in Tech its a rapid and steep progression. Just hopping around for a year and two and you are earning double your wages this only happens in tech. Now bring on the AI kangers in this thread.

Where would law rank
Law is solid, but it's a slow climb compared to tech. You spend years in school, internships, junior roles, then associate, partner the growth is steady but nowhere near the steep jumps you see in tech. Top law firms do make a lot of money but in terms of fast track to wealth while young I'd rank it way below tech.

I am not very experienced tbh and it varies widely depending on state for example in Cali you don't need to go to law school just clear the bar exam and you can practice

people love to cope with "muh AI!" but they dont understand that job markets move in waves and just because the field is highly competitive now doesnt mean it will be forever, no matter the speculation..

Software is probably the most skill based thing you can do other than starting your own shit, but even that's just luck. Because there are so many applicants it's truly if you know your shit you make a killing, getting the degree isn't hard but you choose what subjects you want and if you don't learn anything useful to them they dotn want you

Isnt the law school u go to extremely important for later firms tho? Like ive heard employers value stuff like that greatly, for example if u went to Yale or columbia or rly good school/law program

Ofc if you want to join elite firms you need to be from Target schools but I'm just saying you don't have to go to law school to clear the bar and practice as an independent lawyer in some states.

Software is by the far the most meritocratic field I've seen. It doesn't matter where you are from, what you look like or where you went to uni. If you can do the work you'll be hired. I know people who don't even have a degree that hot hired as devs

Probably yeah but there are a few famous lawyers who never attended law schools but they are probably outliers

if that's what it takes to "make it" in the current reality and afford the current rent and housing prices, i'd rather stay homeless and watch you rats scurry around trying to save this sinking ship. i'm betting everything against the system.

even though theres a lot of competition, tech is one of those skills that can be applied to a wide variety of things because of how relevant it is in this age, so saying its pointless to study tech doesnt make sense

Most grads can’t get jobs

I know it’s the best for you but for guys like me it’s shit. Most people who diners and shit are FUCKED and the layoffs are insane

I’d say only top 10% of actual tech people are lucky enough to find success the rest of us are fucked

Also what you said about being rich only applies to Americans outside of the USA tech jobs pay peanuts

That's Finance with its 80 hours per week work. In most tech jobs u just LDAR for most of the day and do actual work for like 2-3 hours maybe. Also minimal social interaction with people outside of a handful of coworkers and your manager. Ideal for most autists here

This is exactly what I've been saying it's one of those skills that multiples than keeps you in a box even many financecels are being forced to learn basic coding. Coding has been democratised

Most grads aren't employable in general and in tech it it hits hardest because a degree isn't giving you a job in the field. If you don't have skills your tier 1 degree in CS is as good as paper weight @takethewhitepill @BeanCelll

Cs is just such an easy degree rn since most unis let you have 2/3 subjects elective, if I want a good gpa I already have completed everything in philosophy and theology in my own time as well as have studied some of the books they do at mine, but my employer doesn't care about that and wants me to know c++. I don't understand how people take arts degrees up, Cs let's you do the same stuff or you can just look up the course and do it yourself and either way all that course gets you is minimum wage zogslaving. My first time working before my degree is even done I get paid 20usd per hour and they will pay me more once they are legally allowed to since I'm not full time and have no degree. Skills are the way

True. I even made a thread about it. CS isn't hard

And where are you from? There's no cap in the U.S that limits how much an intern can be paid. Most CS grads actually make a bank during their summer internships.

Yep, Cs is super breezy. I'm from Australia, to be honest I'm not super sure on the laws but it's because my role is junior developer and they want to stop nepotism from letting people be hired as senior before they are actually senior I think. It's not exactly a limit but basically if I take less now and a bump later which dw I'm not being scammed to work for less, I pay less tax

Come to the US you'll make 10x the amount you are making.

When I finish my degree I plan to. But there is a lot of growth where I am currently too so ill have to decide. I also know a few guys that run tech companies that offered me a job when I finish from judo, it's a popular tech guy sport I guess

Why such a drastic pivot?
It's the insecurity i have inside me, I feel like i wasn't built for this kind of life, getting layed off randomly, searching for jobs with your resume, travelling here and there alone, I haven't even left my city yet :ROFLMAO:.
Medschool seems more aligned with my introverted studycel personality. While graduating, I felt like an imposter among the cs nerdcels.

No it isn't, memories and experiences won't vanish or be taken from you. Think about what you want in life, and how much income do you need for that. Being rich (+10M net worth) is not something I need.
