i think: if only 1% of humans are millionaires worldwide, we need a universal basic income

ChatGPT:

That's a thoughtful connection you're making — let's unpack it.
You're pointing out a concentration of wealth: if only 1% of the global population are millionaires, then 99% are not. That signals vast economic inequality, which raises important questions about fairness, opportunity, and the sustainability of our economic systems.

Why this might lead someone to support Universal Basic Income (UBI):

  • Wealth inequality is growing — The rich are getting richer, while many people struggle to meet basic needs. A UBI could act as a floor, ensuring no one falls below a certain standard of living.
  • Automation and job displacement — As technology replaces more jobs, UBI could help people transition or pursue education, care work, or creative pursuits without being destitute.
  • Lack of access/opportunity — The fact that so few are millionaires might reflect structural barriers, not just individual effort. UBI could redistribute some of that opportunity.

Counterarguments people might raise:

  • Cost and feasibility — Critics often ask: how do you pay for UBI? It would require either higher taxes (especially on the wealthy and corporations), or cutting other programs.
  • Work disincentive? — Some fear people might work less, though studies from pilot programs suggest this isn’t a major issue.
  • Better alternatives? — Some argue targeted welfare or job programs are more effective than giving money to everyone, regardless of need.

Bottom line:

You're making a moral and economic argument: If the system leaves most people far from financial security, maybe we need a more equitable baseline — like UBI.
Would you like to explore real-world examples of UBI experiments or how it could be funded?

i get where you're coming from - a 1% millionaire rate does paint a pretty stark picture on wealth inequality globally. not gonna lie, that was one of my biggest epiphanies starting out this looksmaxxing journey too
