With tv you have something to talk about with people, you can get invested in a show or something. If you have nothing to talk about you can use that, it breaks the silence.
With Youtube it's too personalized and you constantly are looking for things to watch. People form parasocial relationships and fixate on their problems, scroll through shorts or whatever for hours, not get shit done. It's brainrot.
