Rather than studying hard because your parents told you, you naturally gain an interest in certain subjects (in your own time even) and compete with people at school. Then you build from there. Or you have extracurricular interests in music, tinkering with shit, foreign languages

You casually play sports with friends or join a club then you get better at it over time. Need to learn self defense after losing a fight or going with friends pushes you into martial arts. A lot of skills are just passed down by parents as well.

If you stray from that natural ‘flow’ guiding you into shit you risk ending up stuck in life and LDARing like me. It’s that buildup of life experiences, saying ‘fuck it’ and doing things regardless of what people say. Just following your instincts and curiosity is enough

It's definitely true that education should be driven by your natural interests, and therefore self-directed as opposed to the modern education system which is based on the idea that there's a generalizable education that everyone needs and therefore can't be replaced with your own interests. The closest you'll get is being able to select classes but you still don't choose the curriculum, etc.

The idea that you should just follow your instincts, though, is perhaps true for people in very lucky circumstances. Richcels for example should act like you say, and just do whatever they want. As long as they aren't severely retarded then they are probably fine. Even then, following your instincts assumes your instincts which are not just innate but developed through your socializations (which in the modern day includes many unnatural sources) will create a sense of happiness and flourishing. In reality, this is not true. We all have values, because we all have things we want and want to keep, and we will eventually wonder to ourselves if we have lived well according to our values and if the answer is no, it will cause distress.

Instead, you must carefully consider what your values are and what is the rational way to maximize your values or your practicing of your ethical values. This is a far better system in my eyes then the intuitionist ideas that are spread here and everywhere else. The problem of overthinking is real but the problem is that you overthink while holding the values of society, because you haven't realized the ultimate value is your own life and it's flourishing then you are needlessly critical and emotional with regards to your life. Not trying rationally to increase your flourishing through understanding and manipulating your mind to act in the way. To actually control your mind top down, and therefore your life. Instead of being controlled by your intuitions which are really what society has instilled into you.

The alternative is too vague and abstract, especially with you making the common argument of ‘only richcels can do whatever they want’ but what’s the alternative? Do what other people tell you? Do something that is vaguely ‘stable’ and ‘will pay off’ somehow?

It’s a dangerous route to go down, you believe you’re planning for ‘the future’ or focusing on ‘the right things’. Or avoiding ‘failure and hardship’ basically structuring your life around vaguely avoiding negative consequences believing that you can successfully predict the future.

Following your natural instincts will lead to more concrete gains and experiences.

Well following your intuition is following what other people tell you, it is the unconscious aggregate of your social experiences. Basically it just what your brain has learned to do without effort and thought, but it's not any less societally influenced then your conscious thought. You were socialized through your family, what you were taught in school, what people say on this site, what you watch and view on social media, comments you read, etc.

The alternative is to build your own values, or discover them, and maximize them rationally. The bottom up lifestyle would be valid in a natural society in which your instincts aren't corrupted and are translatable to a natural environment. But in this world you need to be aware of your own values, thoughts, your biases, and particularly you need to learn how to control yourself and your mind to align with what you're ideal vision of yourself is. Which ideally is as I described at the start of this para.

I believe you can prevent this if you start doing things really young. You just have to be a rebel. People who fold or pussy out end up with abused dog instincts like me. Incapable of trying at anything, completely nonsensical thought process, bizarre habits, self-doubting etc. But this is an abherration of your natural intuition

Rn I need to completely restructure my thought process and reject my instincts to do anything slightly productive

Yeah but they are actually useful because when you're an abused dog they are useful adaptations. The problem is they keep you an abused dog for life even when u change environments / change as an individual.

But yes, good metacognition is law in this society that gets you caught in dopamine traps, beats you down, etc etc. Id recommend studying neurology, but the most important truth I think everyone needs to understand is that we are creatures of habit and we can consciously create and strengthen feedback loops in our brain through our actions and we can turn them into habits.
