When I was younger, I'd come across some vagrant grasping at nothing, or yelling at passersby. I'd always cringe at them; I'd dehumanize them in my mind. But as you get older, as you start to experience merely a taste of how ice cold this world can be, all you're left with is the recognition of how unsurprising these people are. All I feel for them is empathy. In truth, it's more surprising to me now that people manage to lead "normal" lives at all.
