I remember traveling to Latin America and sometimes being mistaken for a local.

Had it happen to me many times in Colombia especially. Had a woman from Medellin try to guess where I was from and she kept naming places in the Caribbean part of Colombia like Barranquilla. When I told her I was American, she seemed surprised a bit.
