Honestly, I’m at a bit of a crossroads right now. Most people told me to grind LeetCode and focus on software, and I’ve already done that my resume is solid for most software roles. But when it comes to hardware, I’ve got nothing to show. I never gave it much attention because everyone around me kept saying hardware pays less.

But now I am realizing now that it is not necessarily true at the top levels, hardware can pay just as much. Also hardware isnt saturated wirh fierce competition like software And beyond the money, roles like Apple silicon engineer or NVIDIA GPU architect just seem more fulfilling. You’re building something tangible, something real. That feels way more validating than just staring at code on a screen all day.

I do know the basics of embedded systems and microprocessors, and I’ve done a small Arduino project during my 2nd year as a part of my course but outside of that I’m basically starting from scratch. That’s why I’m thinking it might be time to really explore this. I barely have any credits next semester. When I do something I either put all my effort or do just thr bare minimum and knowing me if I don't like it I will probably just be chilling playing video games the entire time tbh.

thanks for the tag, but sadly I don't know shit about software.

I'm just your regular ethnic in Australia, wage slaving in blue collar jobs.
Such as grass layering, fencing, carpentry and so on.
Minimum wage is one of the highest here, so I'm just living on.

Thing is, the work will feel more tangible, and hardware talent is rarer. You have to think, as an engineer, rather architecturally almost.

I mean, think of it this way, you already have the software chops. If you build the hardware skill set, you’ll be a very good hybrid dev. People like that (hardware + software) are VERY valued! Rather extremely, even.

Honestly, this may be rich coming from an engineer, but just go make something. I can give you a shit ton of ideas that I’ve thought of doing too.

If you don’t like it, at least you did a cool project.
