Fulvestrant (Faslodex) is mainly used for breast cancer, but its effects on the body go beyond that.
Estrogen plays a key role in bone growth. It’s the hormone responsible for closing growth plates, which ultimately stops height increase.
In a study on immature mice, researchers tested estrogen, fulvestrant, and a combination of both. Estrogen alone sped up skeletal maturation, just like expected.
But fulvestrant blocked that effect. Mice that received both estrogen and fulvestrant showed little to no difference compared to normal controls, meaning the estrogen couldn’t do its job.
This suggests that blocking estrogen might slow down growth plate fusion and extend the growth period.
That could be relevant in conditions like early puberty, where bones mature too quickly.
That said, this was only shown in mice. Fulvestrant is a strong medical drug with serious risks, not something to experiment with.
It just highlights how important estrogen is in determining height and bone development.
