Most kids are ugly, at least till they get to 7-8, then the girls get more attractive, but boys stay ugly till they're like 15-16.

Most adults are ugly because bad genetics, fat, alcohol and smoking, kids have way better collagen smaller noses smaller foreheads and more face fat, which is normally perceived as "cute"

We as men and women are evolutionarily programmed to prefer neotenous features so we don’t kill our offspring or children or women that produce such offspring. Women are programmed in the same way to find the healthiest mate and look for those subtle health cues (good immune system and virility) and we call that Masculine aesthetics. Because eggs and womb being more precious than sperm, women end up being more picky and they want the best mate so the society calls vast majority of men ugly and the most viable and healthy men are considered beautiful. On the other end, since majority of men get short end of stick and can’t be picky, they don’t get to dictate what’s beautiful. So, we settle for women’s definition/standards of all things fragile and vulnerable and neotenous being cute and beautiful and all things masculine being beautiful only if it’s the top 20% in health and virility and viability.
