Think about it, so many people are suicidal in this day and age, and some decide to go ER. However, some might think about it, but chicken out because of hell. Do you think religion stops people from going ER? Maybe that's why religion was created in the first place, to control the people at the bottom from lashing out.

FYI, repentance doesn't only mean just saying sorry or asking for forgiveness by saying "Jesus!". It means to flee away from your sin. It means to break free from it.
A good example would be pornography. Watching porn every time and then saying sorry doesn't mean you're forgiven and will go to heaven. It means you are hypocritically continuing with your sin of porn. When you quit viewing porn forever, then you have successfully repented from your sin.

Those that followed him are now called christians, and those that rejected their own religion are now called Jews. Modern Judaism is the rejection of Christ and is newer than Christianity itself.
