I lived in about 9 different cities over 10 years. Shit, you're living large for $500 a month. Last place I rented was a in Suzhou for 2100 kuai a month (less than $300). Fully furnished 3 bedroom.

People are gonna hate you in China no matter how good you look. A lot of people speak English, but most don't. And the ones who do speak English do so for a reason. Because they like foreigners. They're like China's version of weaboos. And they're not gonna tell you how much the majority there hates you, because of face culture.
