You are somewhat right. We have to ask ourselves though why these deformities aren't ever found on skulls of people who lived in pre-civilisation times - for both genders. If a child ends up having a recessed face like his parents, chances are the parents were exposed to the same issues that the child is exposed to. Genetics do play a role, but genes can also be activated and deactivated.

Also keep in mind that people living in the same society can still have drastically different lifestyles. Think of low class families who just rot away all day.

I think deformities are never really inherited exclusively by genetics. Things which are 100% inherited are attributes associated with certain ethnic heritage, say skin colour, hair texture or eye colour. Development seems to be more impacted by the environment and the hormonal profile.
