Thats because of modern industrial society and the disastrous nuclear family model, kids used to be raised by the whole extended family and even neighbours in pre industrial times. Fathers would just continue doing what they always did, their male kids will start to join them once they reached a certain age, first learning then working side by side. The way humans live right now makes it impossible to avoid a conflict between sociatal expectations and biological impulse
