Im recessed and Im getting Braces,what should i ask my dentist for the best forward growth?

Im 16 Male . I am going to get braces cause of my jutted teeth and overbite and crooked lower teeth,,So what should i keep in mind while getting braces,,should i get damon braces, expander or normal metal braces ,,and what should i not do while getting braces and prevent my dentist from doing,,should i use elastic bands? or remove teeth because of the crowding.
