Nobody lives in shacks in the city, you can go clubbing, and Ivy League grads and the brightest of the world move to US cities while avoiding places like West Virginia. Also much thinner people in the cities.

West Virginia is a paradise compared to rural New Mexico. At least WV has a lot of lush forests.

I considered moving to WV about 20 years ago. Because it had a favorable m/f ratio, mostly white population, and I could run big fish in a small pond game. I just didn't have enough money at the time to do it without a job, and there were no suitable Engineering jobs there.

Because those are shithole leftist run cities. Nashville TN, Jacksonville FL, Portland MN, Charlotte NC, etc don’t have those issues, at least not nearly the extent of LA and San Francisco. Two shithole California cities ran by incompetent democrats for decades.

NM is my favorite State. And I've been to almost all. Beautiful scenery (there is a reason famous artists like Adams & O'Keefe...) worked there. Amazing food. Chile based. Cool, Pueblo style architecture like in Taos & Santa Fe. vibrant cultural mix of cowboy, Native American & Hispanic. I could go on for days.
