Most people I have seen who have gone to the UK start on min wage at any employer who will sponsor them a visa and they are stuck there for years. And even after all that trouble they are not anymore marketable than before so switching to a decent paying role is difficult. Realistically, most people don't get a job and have to go back home. Also doesn't help that companies in the UK only recognized work experience you gained in the UK to be relevant and valuable. Even for the locals getting a job is very difficult.
The costs of housing in major cities like London, Birmingham etc is also extremely high. You can't even own your place or wageslave and save some money. You'll have to live pay check to pay check. Immigration maxxing to the UK only makes sense if you come from a wealthy family with a lot of connections or someone who is extremely talented. Otherwise immigrating to the UK seems to be nightmare tier

I do think UK is still not a lost cause like many people seem to think tho. It's a sinking ship yes but it can be saved with good policy making. Improve economic relations with ASEAN, BRICS, NATO. Address the labour laws to fill roles in the NHS, increase housing etc. All these things can be done but only under a strong competent leader but I have my doubts on Starmer.

Just take a look at the GDP per capita back in 2008 it was more or less the same as the US. Even the pound was higher almost 2 dollars per pound, now it's like $1.25. The wage to house price ratio was like 7x in cities and 4x in towns. The average graduate position what's like £25,000 (tbh there are still some this low). If you was typing this 17-18 years ago, you probably would have looked at the UK at the land of opportunity and you wouldn't have been wrong. Tony Blair was quite good leader despite being a war criminal. Even the decade before wasn't too bad, and whether you like it or not the impact of Thatcher's policies were probably overall good for the UK economy.

I think the UK is beyond saving. It will probably follow the same trajectory as Japan being in a constant state of stagnation and little to no growth. It will die a slow painful death. Deservedly so. I don't really care because I'm a northerner and to be completely honest I've planned to retire up north where it's a lot cheaper and all this bullshit doesn't exist. It never developed, but things didn't get expensive either at least in terms of housing. The average house in my hometown in the last 20 years is probably up only 30% (half the increase was the last five years). Wages have probably kept up as well in those areas. They are affordable adjusting for inflation.

If you are thinking of moving to the UK just don't go anywhere near the shitty London bubble. The only people who have anything good to say about London are Londoners, tourists and old-timer FOBs who think it's like the economy of the past.

you can’t just move to the us as your average Joe most people who move there will get a work sponsored visa from a international company. My Dad has a friend who worked as a stockbroker and got asked to go and work in New York. He’s rich as fuck btw.
