somewhat agree with the post but for the title, it has little to do with the west. Im not an expert on what the public thought back then, but experts who were concerned about overpopulation were mostly looking at projections for the third world. Growth rates falling outside of developed countries are usually due to either immigration or serious policy mismanagement like in China.
