In what ways have you noticed misogyny manifest on Reddit?
I ranted yesterday about not being able to talk to my father about privilege. Many comments had something to the effect of “how dare you! Your father grew up dirt poor and paid your your college, working 70 hour weeks just so you could survive, and you, an ungrateful college girl who has been given everything by him dare discount that work?”
It was stunning to me how they immediately assumed my father grew up poor, which he didn’t, paid for my uni, which he didn’t, worked 70 hour weeks for me, which he didn’t. They just automatically assumed that i magically became indoctrinated after going to university, which I’ve had, these beliefs for years. So many needed to characterize him as this saint who I was rudely discrediting with by even suggesting that the both of us has certain privileges as white people, even though the conversation wasn’t directed at him.
