True, but also you're comparing apples to oranges. The very difference between those countries and Indonesia is that a lot of them had a period where they were able to get away from the influence of the West and even take the path of the East (for example Syria under Assad, Iraq under Saddam, Algeria under the Ben Bella, Libya under Gaddafi, etc), for a lot of them they had the ability to embrace their culture but not just that, but even rid their culture of European elements (culture revolution). Indonesia has never truly had something like this, unless you count the period under Sukarno but he ended up being taken out in a Western backed coup which ended up installing Suharto, a dictator who ended up killing off political opposition while serving the interests of the people who backed him.

You can't just compare one place to another without acknowledging that these places have different material conditions.
