Information about mackerel, and why are they so high in DHA, and population (cheapness), even as a PACIFIC fish.

Diet of Scomber japonicus (Japanese Mackerel):
  • Crustaceans: 45%
    • Copepods (tiny crustaceans that are like tiny shrimp): 25%
    • Euphausiids (small, shrimp-like crustaceans): 15%
    • Other crustaceans (like crabs, lobsters, but much smaller): 5%
  • Fish: 35%
    • Small fish (like sardines, anchovies): 20%
    • Fish larvae (baby fish, like tiny versions of larger fish): 10%
    • Capelins: No, they don't typically eat capelins.
  • Cephalopods (like squid, octopus): 10%
  • Zooplankton (tiny, usually microscopic, crustaceans and other organisms): 5%
  • Other food items: 5%
Comparison with Scomber scombrus (Atlantic Mackerel):
  • Both species have similar diets, with a focus on small fish, crustaceans, and cephalopods, but Scomber scombrus tends to eat more small fish and squid.

Basically mackerels are carnivores eating best foods around, like fatty small fish, like crustaceans, and like underdeveloped various fish too.

I crafted it knowing exactly what you don't know, obviously.

For example. Mackerel is cheapest of high DHA fish. Pacific fish is usually inferior than Arctic but not mackerel. Etc.

You don't know nothing, son.
