It is because most High Schools in the US teach a culture of Wokism, meaning groups that have been historically oppressed (in the US that is primarily Blacks, women and gays) are made sacred, and revered, anyone that criticizes a person from a historically oppressed group is a racist/whatever. The rock/goth/counter culture girls are rebelling against mainstream teachings in general, and thus they don't see any reason to bend over backwards to accommodate some Black guy that they would not naturally be attracted to.
