I've been reading up on afghan history lately and it seems to me that afghanistan is actually a beautiful place to visit. Although conditions there are really poor nowadays, does anyone live there and if so can you shed some light on living conditions and maybe on how the taliban controls everything and overall moral and ethical values?

Where r u originally from?
How was the overall feeling of safety? And were the people welcoming, did u feel like it was ruled by tyranny or did everything feel structured?

Nah bro it’s one of the most interesting places in the world, ruled by tons and tons of dynasties, from ghengis khan to alexander the great and to the taliban now.

Im Afghan, both parents from Kabul. Father is Tajik and mother is Pashtun.

I did not feel unsafe during my time there. We stayed in an upper class area compared to the rest of the city, but even the poor areas were rather secure and safe.

The city had a big problem with robbers and thieves but that issue has nearly all but disappeared. The current regime is quite harsh on criminals.

I do not have any bad things to say about the people there (except some). Despite the tremendous poverty, most people were warm and humble, they would offer you what little possessions they have and invite you as a guest to their home (which is a great honour)

The current regime is much more strict than the republic era. Lots of extreme rules ranging from what to wear, what to say, how long your beard should be etc

However I’ve found that despite these rules being enforced on paper, the law isn’t followed completely. Most people still continue their lives as they did before the Emirate. People still shave their beards, play music in their homes, etc

Unless you directly work for the government, most people’s lives haven’t changed noticeabley. (Except if you’re a woman RIP) The poverty and struggle is still there

Ofc this is the main capital city. People tend to be more liberal here. I’ve heard that the rural areas are even more conservative

I have a lot of stories from that place

There was a giant marble statue of Zeus in Afghanistan, a fragment of the foot remains, I’ve actually seen it in Kabul museum
