Any acedemiccels here? My profs just chill and take a billion years to grade assignments, while earning 10k Euros a month for yapping about indifference curves and the gold standard. Sounds chill as fuck to me, do y'all think thats viable? :feelswat:

Yeah honestly professors, depending on the field, make like +100k per year. Issue is you need a lot of prestige to land good jobs as a professor, either have gone to a good college, have done a lot of research or have some kind of teacher experience, and of course a PhD.

No
You need to study like crazy to get that PhD, and getting that college professor job isn't as easy as it was back then because everyone goes to college these days
You make as much as engineers with experience, and you have to check exams outside your office hours

t. STEM college professor parents

No, the path to get to being a professor is brutal.

It was a career path I was interested in progressing into using my philosophy degree but I was advised against it by some of my professors because of how competitive getting that PhD is (its not like exams, people are extremely competitive. For you to get your PHD you have to make sure everyone else doesnt.) and once youve even got that the process of going from lecturer to professor can take years.

All that time you are grinding as a simple lecturer you literally do the same work as a proffessor does while earning about 20k a year, theres not even a garuantee you ever will be able to move up to proffessorhood either. This is because of how the application works in which your eligibility is decided by a higher academic board. If they dont like you then you wont become a proffessor.

TLDR: You compete with everyone else for a PHD, then slave away for 30k a year for years before getting the chance to apply for proffessorhood which isnt garuanteed if the board dont like you.

If you are happy with 100k a year it would probably be less stress to just get a bachelors degree in mechanical engineering and work as an engineer in the field at lets say an oil rig or a factory. Quality assurance over measurements of some product in the production line, paperwork, testing running pumps for leaks, scanning welds to check for cracks and bubbles. Never something too challenging but something they need an engineer to do.

100k is only $273.97 per day, easily made online

skip the degree and make money online :Comfy:

$120k a year is bare minimum. You need at least $250k a year to be comfortable.
