Yes it is a good indicator. However not all of the brilliant minds are good at maths. They may have the potential to be but for example find it very boring. I remember reading of this young fellow here in Finland who had iq of 190 and he had just studied to be a goldsmith. I remember him saying he didn't choose a academical path since he hated maths.
