I don't think it is tbh - or at least it is extraordinarily rare
your typical "depression case" is almost entirely the result of environmental factors. muh brain chemicals bad is just an excuse for people finding little success in life - as far as I'm aware there is no substantive evidence supporting this
if depression was really caused by genetic imbalances in the brain then wouldn't the opposite of depression be relatively common? yet it doesn't seem to exist, strange
in summary: I don't think depression is a legitimate biological phenomenon and all it amounts to is stating I feel sad a lot on some official form
