my mandible is very nicely developed but i feel like my upper jaw fucks up my face severely despite my bite only being off by 1mm. i imagine if i get surgery they will either do at *most* a 3mm expansion of my maxilla (they tend to overcorrect it a lot of the times bc there is some slight relapse that occurs i've read) or they'll perform on both jaws but they'll only do some counter-clock wise rotation on my lower jaw. i keep getting people telling me it's stupid to spend so much on just some slight underdevelopment but i'm a firm believer that even the smallest maxillary advancement can produce good results. with that being said i haven't had any consultations with any surgeons yet but this is just what i'm speculating the likely plan would be. my biggest issue right now is how sunken my midface looks and the fact that my nose is downturned when i smile + my chin sticking out when i smile also making me look retarded, like i said before i think even some very minor maxillary advancement would help me a lot with this.

i dont think it's a bad decision, but your advancement probably has to be much higher ig?

i really doubt it's gonna be more than 3mm, maybe 4mm at a push. i live in the UK and every max fax surgeon i've met has essentially just told me i'm crazy for even considering DJS since my face looks normal, people tell me that my maxilla looks fine from the side and my nose is well developed and the tip of it aligns with my chin. i just want slightly more support. the "easier" thing for me to do would just get fillers to overcompensate for the sunken look and some botox to stop my nose from turning downwards but that will never fix the underlying cause of course and that will cost me more in the long run anyways

i just finished with camouflage braces about 3 weeks ago, asked for my medical notes and it's listed as a -1mm overjet. in the UK i believe if you have an underbite that's misaligned by over 3.5mm you get free jaw surgery so it's definitely under that at least. i don't have any scans besides a panoramic x-ray (frontal view of my teeth) which is kind of useless. will only get ceph (side profile) scans when i go to see my new ortho on the 23rd which i keep having to reschedule bc of my shitty slave job
