it's never really about one's face being too wide in itself, it's about the face being too wide for the maxilla. if his maxilla was more forward grown it would restore all the ratios and make him look more attractive (i.e. ipd), people that have these "blockfaces" are really just wide faces with big jaws and recessed maxillas.
