Title. I was in the Infantry regiment in the army and my commanding officer used to say that Infantry is needed rn but might soon become obsolete in 50-60 years into the future.
Rn Humans are still used because they are cheap and can be used in semi-diplomatic circumstances. Infantry is also useful for clearing out buildings and airborne and specialized infantry men are still very important for precision strikes but frontline soldiers and large formations of soldiers charging in platoons is a thing of the past. In Russia and Ukraine we saw the same thing. Those large formation of soldiers were just easy work for drones and fighters but small packs of soldiers deployed in groups were much harder to fight back against. They could also control more ground compared to armoured divisions but that is slowly changing with modern warfare with precision strikes missiles, advanced weaponry and field crafts. Do you think infantry will become useless in the future?
