It's always worth it. Some of the best players are bred with sub par equipment.

Once you transition to top tier equipment, you'll improve that much more and are used to much less

You're looking for excuses to be lazy. All that matters is motivation and work ethic in sports (Aside from genetics). As long as you have availability to practice, there are no excuses not to be top tier.

A punching bag is a punching bag, whether new or old. A soccer goal is a soccer goal, whether it's made from sticks or net. A basketball hoop is a basketball hoop, whether it's a chain net, regular net or no net.

What sport are you talking about?
