Is moisturizer and cleanser overrated when using tretinoin?

Just to experiment i haven't cleansed or moisturize my face 2 days now, while doijg tret like normal. Well when i woke up today my skin just have very mild peeling, and it wasn't completely dry like redditors claim all the time, on touch it feels normally oily. So why use cleanser and moisturizer when they always cause me some form of irritation if i could only be using tret

Cleanser isn't necessary but I use it as a mental cope to make sure impurities don't stay on the skin (as is possible if you just wash with water).

Moisturizer is necessary after applying tret though, or you will get very flaky and dry red skin in the long run.

Though if you have very oily skin (as you do), you may produce so much natural sebum you don't need a moisturizer after tret.
I need one though, I would get severe peeling without it.

Most people with regular, dry or combination skin will need to moisturize after using tretinoin, especially higher variants like 0.05% or 0,1%.

Yeah, I have been using 0.05 for 2 days without moisture and didn't feel dry, maybe a small bit

Will see, going to experiment the following month with moisturizer only AM without PM too see if it makes my skin better

If you dont have acne issue with moisturizer there is no point abdicating it tbh, it only do good to your skin if dont flare up your acne

Well it always makes my acne more red/inflamed looking after applying it. Idk if its because of the hyaluronic acid in it

Isn't sandwich method moisturizer - wait 20 minutes - tret - moisturizer? Why would that make it more effective

Yup. It's more effective in that it reduces irritation but I've heard that it makes the tret less effective

You'd want some sort of light cleanser for evenings if you're wearing sunscreen throughout the day though tbh

It makes it quite the bit less effective in theory cause if the moisturizer is water based, then the tretinoin literally won't be able to enter the skin, this is because retinoids are hydrophobic

Current tret strategy is applying it on clean dry skin, waiting about 40 minutes (this amount goes up week by week) then rinsing off and applying moisturizer. After another month of this I am going to switch to the sandwich method since my skin will be tolerant enough. Currently I am only seeing peeling on the acne itself and a few other small areas. I don’t think cleanser is necessary but moisturizer twice a day is a must

It's literally not tho if you use tret, cleanser doesn't kill the bacterium acnes which is deep in the skin, only women need it cause of makeup

Your skin gets oily during the day as well as dirty, you need to cleanse first before applying tret

Having oily skin is reduced by quite alot when you use tret in the first place, and tretinoin is a retinoid and they are lipophilic and hydrophobic so oil isn't a problem at all for effects
