No, there’s way more to it than that. Within Switzerland from the German cantons to the Italian canton there’s a noticeable difference in the phenos, let alone from Germany to Italy. This idea that German genetics saved Northern Italy is SFcel nonsense from people who’ve obviously never been there. Swiss Germans, not that they’re bad looking at all but a lot of them are very short, with dark hair and eyes, Northern Italian looks are something else.

My theory is, the Gio Scotti type look comes from centuries of competition and refinement there that came with the north being the economic, industrial, etc. core of Italy. This is the concept of the core and the periphery. The cities in the north are closer to the rest of Europe so they became industrial and trade centers and thus more developed and thus became the core. Whereas the south is too far out on the peninsula, peninsular and island regions tend to be out of the way of trade routes and etc. so they can end up underdeveloped and not receiving a lot of internal migration.
