The media (at the time) portrayed him as an "evil White supremacist" (as opposed to what he really was: a White patriot defending his land against demographic replacement by subhuman taco benders).

As for why he fell from the headlines relatively quickly, because his shooting wasn't close enough to the 2020 election. George Floyd was the story the liberals ended up using to tilt the election for Brandon.
