The land there was never really that good so their population was only able to really grow in the last 2 centuries. Its hard to be the center of the world when you're focused more so on surviving. I think many people in the United States and Britain have ancestry from that region so its likely they contributed to things. Sweden has released music, given us Ikea, Minecraft and nice cookies. Norway has given us
Henrik Ibsen.

Maybe in the future the cultural/scientific center of the world will move there who knows.

No culture, no history, no architecture. I’d say it’s pretty impressive with Scandinavia being a cold snowland with a low population compared to other places. We have full of woodland here so it just makes sense that wood would be part of our architecture

And we do have cuisine, Fårikål is my all-time favourite food

And I do have to say straw and mud was the standard construction method in most European housing up to the early modern period. Wattle and daub is basically dried mud covering branches

And I can mention Norway didn’t even have a population of 200,000 yet in 900 AD yet Norwegian vikings still managed to build one of the biggest economic and slave centers in Europe during the viking age (Dublin). If you look at the other side of what they don’t do but maybe could, then they’re the most civilized Europeans. Sweden has had about 200 years of peace while the rest of supposedly civilized Europe and America were killing each other by the millions in both World Wars and other wars all over the world, inventing new ways to do it.

The Vikings discovered North America about 500 years before the other Europeans did. And not that colonialism (usury, race mixing, genocide) is that much of an achievement but Sweden did colonize Pomerania and places in Africa at one point. And Norway has colonies in the Arctic and Antarctic where they can conduct research and drill for oil without raping a bunch of brown women or killing a bunch of Muslims.

And if I’m gonna judge a society, it’s gonna be more by the averages there than by what inventions or whatever they gave the world, because that comes down more to specific individuals.

He actually died in Orkney Scotland too. Orkney also is the only place outside of Norway that celebrates 17th of may Norwegian independence day. I know Norwegian Americans will probably celebrate it but Orkney hasn't been part of Norway for over 500 years I think. It's very admirable they celebrate their viking roots. Jfl I am pretty sure some scandi countries had colonies in India and Africa but compared to the British they were short lived. Theyve also had rather undisturbed boarders compared to the rest of Europe, Scandinavia by in large was hit a lot less harder in WW2 which was a turning point for most countries to get them to where they are today. Agree on the culture and cuisine though Mediterranean mogs them in every way shape and form.
