"Is it gay?" WHO CARES NIGGA, DO WHAT YOUR HEART DESIRES, CONFORMING TO SOCIAL EXPECTATIONS IS A RECIPE FOR DEPRESSION. Yves Saint Laurent was gay yet he made more money than you and I will ever see making clothes, Pharrell William is straight yet he has made so much fucking money on Louis Vuitton.

HOWEVER I WILL NOT RECOMMEND YOU START A CLOTHING BRAND. Succeeding in fashion is very hard and takes connections more than anything, clothing brands are often some of the most unprofitable businesses and the most prone to failure, it's a very volatile, and even luck-dependent field. Do not waste your time on it, specially when you're approaching with the mentality of "Is it gay?"

True but no use in not trying.

Absolutely true, but when it comes to fashion niche often beats generic, you need to find something deeper other than "skating" and "supreme-like", that's absolutely not going to cut it on a creative-based field where people care more about the status and message on the clothes.

Don't you have other interests, tho? There are so many other fields where you have better odds of making it, rather than ending up with a bunch of generic shirts that no one ended up buying.

Not saying that you shouldn't go for it or that you won't make it, just saying it's unlikely, so many people who have gone to fashion school, who're fashion enthusiast and who have great sketches, designs and even connections in the fashion industry, with real passion for it, struggle to create a brand from scratch, what do YOU have? how successful do you even want to be?

Just selling cringe merch with logos/catchphrases is gay. But if you can manufacture some revolutionary type of attire then it mogs

Yeah that’s true but I feel like people over complicate stuff like this when most are want simple. Going to fashion school is retarded to me because fashion is most of the time evasion to the system. But I see your point.

I don't know, do people really want simple?

Again, what point are you trying to reach? Are you trying to start the next multibillion dollar fashion brand or make a few hundred dollars selling stuff online? Scope is really important

Also, fashion school is not stupid, it's important and most fashion designers have done it for a reason. It teaches you the fundamentals of fashion, what has been working for centuries, and it teaches you how to reinvent.

But learning about fashion isn't the important thing about fashion school, it's the connections you will make there and the huge boost going into fashion school gives you to actually be able to land a job. Going to Yves Saint Laurent, he would be a NOBODY if he hadn't gone to fashion and eventually had met Christian Dior because of it, his mentor and the guy that basically secured his place in the industry.

Getting a degree in general is important for that reason, it's not only about the skills you develop, but the prestige boosts and the important connections you will make. Knowing a guy can be the difference between you become a millionaire or not, and going to college in an area you're interested it, bonus points if it's a prestigious college, multiplies your chances of making important connections like nothing else could

I mean go for it, if it's just for a creative passion then I'm all for it, do what your heart likes if you actually believe on it.

I'm just a very pragmatic guy, I don't like doing stuff, if I'm not sure if it has worked before or if it has high chances of getting me what I want. The way I see it, finding success in fashion while you're trying to be "minimalist" and "simple" is just a mission impossible, the only way I realistically see that succeeding is if you can make really high quality stuff that exceed expectations in that department, but to pull that off you're going to need monetary investment, and I don't think you'll be able to gather enough on your own.

That means you need venture capitalists, and that's going to be a huge issue with this kind of business model. More often than not in fashion, it's about reinventing and being as flamboyant and polarizing as possible. That's sadly how the industry works.

BUT AGAIN, DO WHAT YOU WANT, YOU MAY ACTUALLY FIND SUCCESS IN THIS AND DEFY ALL ODDS, you're young anyway, you have time
