If you look at real world war statistics with few exceptions wars don't kill anywhere near as many people as we are told. In ancient times war was more like a giant pushing contest and battles would have like 5% fatality rate or some shit. In modern times it's higher but not as much as you would think.
Also consider the cowardly way most soldiers will fight in modern wars. Waiting in a fox hole or trench while carefully trying to blow up the other side with a drone or something. I also read somewhere that once casualties within a unit reaches 10-15% battle effectiveness decreases by as much as 80-90% because of devastated morale. Tbh I think soldier's bravery is massively overrated.
