There's a theory that the internet died in 2016 or 2017 and now it's mostly bot generated content and algorithmic manipulation to control the masses.

The dead internet theory first originated on 4chan in late 2010s and now has started to gain traction again. According to the theory we rarely interact with a human in most social media platforms or see any content that is 100% created by a real person instead the Internet has been replaced by mostly AIs or bot generated content and comments meant to sell us products or ideas or for propoganda to manipulate how we perceive our world

It was originally labelled as conspiracy theory but with the insane rise of AI content and ChatGPT ruining social media and replacing any true form of human creativity. The theory is rapidly becoming true.

Especially on youtube tbh. Every other comment seems to be from a bot.

It became more centralised, as with every cutting edge industry that starts fresh there is a lot of competition at the beginning and then decades later it is taken all by a few companies. Facebook, META and Google control most content that the general populace consumes.

Well, there are so many bad actors on the internet. It's not dead but the amount of people just existing to try and sway your opinion on things is just increasing.

Yes, I've noticed that even a few years ago, before AI became mainstream, there were some subreddits that seemed to be nonsensical with weird topics and discussions and people answering like what was said there made sense, ironically one of these subreddits was r/simulationtheory with tons of offtopic subjects and bizarre replies, I tried to report those, but I was ignored like the whole section was just an experiment.
