Yeah the younger you are the more there is chance to alter your bones. Ideally before 15 or 16.

Not really, the plates fuse after you turn 16 or so so cant do much. The earlier you diagnose it the more chances you have since your plates are not fused yet

Whats so miserable ? They dont wire your jaw shut anymore. It would make you look normal again if it is good

Not really. You can go on jawsurgery on reddit to get opinions. It is not sunshine and roses but medical science has advanced a lot
