Maybe get your thyroid checked. Hypothyroidism can result in frizzy hair.

Gel is the number one frizz fighter.

Amazon product ASIN B00BNVM8OG
Don't worry, your hair won't turn retarded and spikey, it will hold your hair so it wont frizz.

Apply it after you get out of the shower, wait for it to completely dry and scrunch it out using a scrunching motion with your fingers.

legit for medium-long hair too?

Its legit for all hair, just know if your hair is long you have to apply more on your palm, lemon-sized atleast. Look up LA extreme sports gel level 10 hold on amazon or you can buy at some retail store.

This is what I mean to scrunch out the crunch when your hair is 100% dry.

how do I get the product out of my hair at the end of the day though? or do I just leave it in considering I only wash couple times per week

I just told you how. When your hair dries it gets crunchy and you remove it by scrunching. If you want the actual product out of your hair wash it.
