Take this photo of a lion for example:

Notice how the lion is at the very center of the image. While the lion's presence is direct, there isn't much that makes this photo look super aesthetic.

Now compare the same photo, but with the lion at the far left, or the left third, of the photo:

The lion's placement is now much more striking, attention-grabbing, and overall aesthetically pleasing. The reason this looks so much better than the first photo is what we call the rule of thirds.
