there are like 8 different branch of islam. most proiment ones are sunni and shia. for example shias believe that prophet's successors are his family and descendants.

I am sunni. And there is 4 mazhab in sunni islam. (hanefi, maliki, shafi, hanbali)

they differ in jurisprudence subjects.

And also there is 3 different theological school in sunni islam.

For examples Maturids emphasize the use of rationality. (theological school)

While Atharis emphasize the strictly use of Quran and hadith as the only source of authority in religion. (its traditionalist) (think like biblical literalism)

Salafis are Atharis. I am salafi

While you can get called kafir by someone (probably a salafi sunni) if you are a member of a different branch (shia and rest 6) or a different thelogical school, a sunni cannot call you kafir for being a member of a different mazhab. all sunni mazhabs have the same creed etc but they differ in jurisprudence subjects as i said before becasue of contreversies. all members of mazhabs accept that the rest 3 and their mazhab is right.

so this interest thing is a subject of jurisprudence. Imam Hanefi (creator of Hanafi mazhab) ruled that its not haram for muslims to give loan with interest to a non muslim if they are in darul harp (non muslim ruled) lands.
