Isn't self improvement a contradiction of "being yourself"?

Correct me if I'm wrong but the concept of self improvement of trying to "be the best", just sounds like an oxymoron. If a man was really confident then he wouldn't go out of his way to change traits about himself to try to impress others. Confidence is an impression you give off when others sense that you are comfortable with yourself and your abilities. Also, why learn new abilities if you are already comfortable with the ones you already have? Suppose you are content with being a truck driver and you prefer working in solitude. Should you ditch that job and become an accountant because you are insecure with doing a profession where the average IQ is below average? If you can own up to every aspect of yourself you will come off as far more secure and grounded than the guy that is always trying to impress others with what car he drives, his job title, etc. Just my thoughts.

the self improvement you're talking about is a psyop.
simply put you either follow rest of the herd or be casted out from soyciety for not living up to their standards

Self improvement is Fukin shit it's just a feel good illusion and nothing else you won't see normies talking about self improvement it's only because it's a source of earning money for content creators, most of the self help content creator are loosers and they would keep revolving around same words " gym bro " " grind bro " this is Fukin cringe i wasted my time in this useless things don't consume self improvement content

It's pedantic Imo. You can't not be yourself as you would be another person, and self improvement needs to stem from values you choose. Or you are just working towards someone elses ideal which is not fulfilling.

There are foundational habits that are always beneficial though of course, self improvement in its base form would be increasing your competency at self chosen tasks.

If you are content with your life, then theres no need to improve. The only 'self improvement' would be ensuring you have the competency to maintain that lifestyle indefinitely and be resilent to unforseen circumstances.

Like self actualisation

Rather than ‘I’ll do this someday…’ you do it now
yeah cuz reacting and thinking about something requires energy you could spend by actually doing something.
