There is probably a way to make followers private, but the default is that your followers are public, and most people don't change it.
Take this guy for example, he is following 687 Insta accounts. He is 61 years old and most of the accounts he is following are pedestrian accounts, but he has quite a few follows that I am sure he would not want other people to know about. Trans women, femboys, and a lot of 10-16 year old girls.
You are thinking, well whats the problem, he isn't using his real name and he does not put his face in his Insta profile. But the thing is he has a YouTube channel that he posts frequent videos on with the same account name, he links to the Instagram from the YT channel, and he follows a lot of other YT creators in the same Carvivore space that he is in. I wrote a thread about him previously. A recent screen grab:

I have commented on this channel in the past, but I have never made a thread about it. TLDR: Bob, Now 61, lost 150+ lbs on the Carnivore diet which he began May 2022. By virtue of this weight loss he now thinks he is a diet, health, exercise expert and posts frequent youtube advice. In reality...
