I had a job interview last month and I noticed all the personnel there were white women so I didn't think I'd get hired since I'm a brown dude but lo and behold, they hired me on the spot. I've been working these past few weeks as a salesperson at a furniture store. I didn't realize how social I had to be when I applied for the job. I had to greet each and every customer that came in and that would be dozens of people. Usually women, and they'd kinda look at me weird when I'd greet them but then they'd notice I worked there and then they'd be smiling and greet me back. I have some more stories but I'll share them later. However, after working three weeks I plan on quitting because I'm supposed to work today but I haven't slept all night and I don't think I'll have the energy to be as social while I'm so sleep-deprived.

Because of my insomnia. I actually planned on working today but I was unable to sleep. Having a job is good but I shouldn't prioritize it over my health.

How do you live independently if you don't got a job?

Are you secretly rich?

I don't live alone, and no I'm poor but I was surviving off of welfare. Not much, 800 euros per month but it was enough to get me by.

I didn't want to quit so soon but tbh, it's for the best. I'm expected to have some specific knowledge about furniture that I won't be remembering anyway because of my insomnia. It's affected my cognitive abilities. :ogre:

Yeah, it's not worth it IMO. I mean technically I could work today while sleep-deprived but I guess I am just looking for a valid excuse to quit.

It's just $17,50/hr, it's not that much. :p But today's double pay, so I'd be earning $176 for working 5 hours today but I'm not gonna bother. :p

No, it was part-time. First week were 2 shifts on Tuesday and Wednesday from 10 AM until 6 PM (actually until 6:30 PM because we also have to do the cash register, and that we're not paid for). And then second week was 4 shifts from Tuesday through Friday from 12 PM until 5 PM, and then third week was supposed to be 3 shifts (I only worked two, today was the third one) on Tuesday and Wednesday from 12 PM until 5 PM again. Doesn't seem like much but I have to socialize with everyone and after being a NEET for so long it doesn't come so easily.

How have you been living so far bro
I was living off of student loans first and then welfare but since getting a job I'm not getting any welfare anymore and my student loans ran out years ago.

What's so funny?
just go to work bradar, maybe then you'll be able to buy some sedatives for your insomnia or something

Caffeine gives me headaches after a few days. And these headaches last long, they usually last for two days. I'm just gonna quit TBH.

Interesting, yeah it sounds quite draining, talking to people all day on a script is soul sucking.

I have had sleep problems since my second year of university which was 1 year ago when I was 18.

I'm trying to stop being a NEET, but its gonna take some time.

Melatonin + magnesium + ashwaganda and unironically try reading before sleep.

If that doesn’t help it’s gg :feelswhy:

If it's been recent then your chances of recovery are very high. The longer you are sleep-deprived the more time it takes to heal. Just one year of this is good because it means you can get rid of it much easier. It's been proven that a lack of sleep shrinks the brain; affecting its cognitive abilities (thinking, speaking, memory). I can attest to this fact because my cognitive abilities are NUKED. Not sure if the damage I've done to myself is reversible but the good news is that yours definitely is.

I've got benzos now because I went to my GP (general practitioner). Dutch doctors are known for giving you a hard time when it comes to meds but my case is the most severe he had heard of so he didn't protest when I asked for them. I've had them since last week Friday but I've not used them yet.

That's true. But I'm going to prioritize my health, if I have to work on a day when I am totally sleep-deprived then I'd rather not work at all.

I have to agree with you, I felt much smarter when I was 16, than I am now. Partly because I overused chatgpt instead of thinking myself, and I also like you said, because of sleep deprivation.

Lately my sleep has been good, its just the timing, its never consistent, somedays I fall asleep at 10:00 pm, while other days I fall asleep at 1:00 pm

I've never used ChatGPT in my life but I can see why others use it, it's very efficient. Glad to hear that your sleep's been good lately. I can relate to that, these days I've been going to sleep at 4:30 AM but I was unable to sleep last night (it's 9:35 AM now).
