Computer application to make 3D CAD work. AutoCAD is the gold standard but many people also prefer SolidWorks for some reason. OP must have very powerful computer to run this.

SolidWorks is used for designing mechanical and electrical stuff and viewing them in 3d before manufacturing, it goes deeper than this but this is essentially the point of the CAD

Does your university give your license to use this software or did you pay for it? I know CAD designing software ain't chesp

My uni does give free licenses but to an older version for autocad its 2010 and for solidworks its 2018, I dont like the old version of solidworks tho but its not the premium version that lets you use all the features, so I managed to get my hands on a 2021 premium version that has all the features and everything I was looking for (cracked version):hnghn:But its running very smoothly

I want to build myself a nice cool sexy looking mustang car which means I have to learn all about vehicles (how chassis are designed, engines, car structures, you name it) and design them:feelshmm::feelsgood:

Mirin. You should consider learning blender too. I've heard it's very good and free also

I use this for my job. It is a very strong thing to have on your CV along with being able to use FEA and CFD software (which actually do exist within Solidworks but most companies will use ANSYS).

This is not realistic or useful. It takes teams of hundreds of engineers to design a car. Pick something easier that you could actually make and then build it in real life and it will be giga impressive to employers.

Do you guys have workstations to run all this? Very Cool tbh 👍

Could only +1 this as an engineering student myself. Never used SW but I use AD Fusion

Well we do have workstation in my uni but they are modest and dont have the best capabilities, it takes time to run stuff like that so I got myself a laptop 32 gb ram NVIDIA T2000s:feelsyay:

Yup im taking it one step at a time, my main goal is to take the CSWE exam

It’s actually not that heavy for small assemblies, I can design stuff on my own laptop which only has a i7-4500U and 820M GPU.

But for giant assemblies like any real engineering yes you need a good machine, my work computer has top of the range latest i9 cpu.

@Jason Voorhees
Most systems can cope with this as long as you aren't rendering insane assemblies on a I3 or something stupid like that. Ask any question regarding it I'm sure I can help. I've studied this computer science nonsense for about 8 years and am rotted with cybersecurity.
