We National Socialists have a task to fulfill, a task which, if it is not solved, will allow Germany to decay into distress and misery. Not emergency decrees can banish this misery, but only a serious self-examination by each individual, to eliminate all the prejudices that have been instilled in the German person through upbringing, wealth, or poverty.
A fundamental transformation of the German people must be brought about, otherwise the day will come when neither the farmer will rule over the proletarian nor the proletarian over the farmer, but rather distress will rule over all.
It does not matter to us National Socialists that we have 12 million people behind us; what matters is that these 12 million embody the best of Germany, the core of the nation.
We do not fight for the year 1932, we do not fight for 1933, not for 1934 — we fight for the distant future, we fight so that the succession of generations does not break off.
Race and space, people and soil are the foundations of our struggle. Youth is driven toward this movement because youth still possesses the unspoiled instinct. And it is this unspoiled instinct that already makes the child raise its hand in greeting, without any conscious understanding of it.
We National Socialists do not wage the struggle for government; we wage our struggle for man! If I must choose between two things — either I become Chancellor, give up the struggle and the movement, or I give up the Chancellorship, continue the struggle, and win 10 million more of my people — then I choose the struggle and conquer the people. For whoever conquers the people opens every road for himself, even if it is called Wilhelmstraße.
Today people say: Yes, but they should have accepted the post of Vice-Chancellor in order to reach their goal indirectly.
