My ear has been totaly plugged with earwax for days and I went to our local doctos office to have the nurse irrigate my ear and remove the cerumen plug, as I have done before from time to time. They tell me the syringe is not working and refer me to a place 40 kms away and I can only get it done on the 29th. I ask them is there not a office closer that has a syringe and they say they are all broken.
Me being a mechanicaly inclined Chad ask to see the syringe and ask what is the problem. They show it to me and say that it takes an extreme amount of force to use it. I try and it is true. I take it apart and see it is made of brass in its entirety, even the plunger. I see the problem right away - a thick layer of oxide has built up and they have used some kind of oil to lubricate it and it has gummed up making the matter worse. I say I can fix it and ask will they let me try. They say take it but brung it back. I assure them I will not steal it and take it home.
I use scothbrite and a woden dowel that I stuck inside my cordless drill to polish the inside. I have polished the plunger by hand.
Voila it is 90% better, now I am just waiting for my friend to come home from work so I can take some diamond polishing paste and polish the inside to a mirror finish.
