That wasn't the point the comment you were replying to was making... he didn't say you shouldn't improve, he was saying being born at the top is better than being born at the bottom.

I'd say the ideal situation is to be born in a situation that gives you the chance to achieve what you want.

you can't appreciate being rich/good-looking/famous/whatever if you were born into it. You'll take it for granted, just like you take a glass of water for granted.

But if you are born without that glass of water, then you will enjoy the glass of water when you finally get it.
