Yeah, competing is always risky in any sport because basically nobody you go against is your friend. You want to win them no matter what.

I do jiu jitsu and people in competitions are insanely aggressive and ready to even break my bones just to win, completely different from friendly sparring at the gym

Just learn and adapt

The difference between jiu jitsu and boxing for example is that I get better at jiu jitsu just by looking at videos on tiktok and youtube, since I constantly see new guard passes, sweeps, submissions etc. But boxing is mainly just training, sparring, cardio and Conditioning

Also if you have sparring at your gym always look for a guy as experienced as you but then also a little bit shorter/lighter/smaller than you.

You can only properly learn attacking by sparring with worse guys

The 80/20 rule is good atleast in jiu jitsu, 80% time you should sparring with people you can absolutely destroy and 20% of the time with people who easily destroy you

I do this, I go train 4 times a week with young teenagers and once a week with adults

Yep ,I know 2 ppl in the gym and they said that they do sparring ,so do you think sparring is the best way to get better?

Not really, it just gives you Experience how your tecniques actually work in a fight

Okay so use the techniques I learn in bjj, kickboxing ,judo etc and implement them in sparring to get better
